    Wedding story…..

Well the wedding started being planned more then 4 years before, small things like the dress, who we wanted in the wedding party, who we might like there. Then plans stalled. Lack of funds made it harder to do as we would have liked. One weekend we were lucky enough to have my parents take the kids. When I was supposed to meet up with my Mom to go and get them, she said to me, “Jenn, I think you need to come down here and get them, Nana isn’t doing well.” This was not in my plan for the day, but knowing that my Nana was not doing well at all I agreed. I drove an hour to first visit my Nana. She didn’t look like MY Nana to me anymore. I talked with her for a bit, but could tell she was getting tired. She also told me that she wanted to just die. She told me this every five minutes, and I was there only for twenty. I told her that she couldn’t yet, she had not had the time to tell me all her stories. But I left her to go and get the kids, mostly so she could rest. On the way home I called George, who was on his way home from being away with friends. I told him what Nana had told me. Trying not to cry, because crying while driving on the parkway is just silly. He said to me, “I know you want her there when we get married, lets just do it in her yard as soon as we can.” So in a matter of 2 and a half weeks we got the license, my Parents ok for doing it this way, Tony to agree to marry us, my brother to stand for George, and Debbie to stand for me. Mom in talking with Yvonne, was given the offer for her to take pictures. The morning of the wedding was a bit gray, but that was ok too. My friend Robin’s mom came to the house and did my hair for me before I drove to my parent’s. We met everyone there, everyone being the 4 of us, George’s Mom and half sister, Debbie, Tony, Yvonne, and Joy. I got dressed, Yvonne did my makeup, and we went over to Nana’s. I went in and talked to her, I don’t know if she could hear me, or knew that I was there, but I know that she was there. Went back outside, and Tony gave us a wonderful ceremony. One I would never trade for anything in the world. My parents took us all out to Casa Comida for dinner. We all had a great time. Not so many of us, but that is ok, close friends and family can be good. My parents then took the kids overnight again for us. The next morning at 12:05 my Nana passed away. She was there for us, and she waited to the next day, at least I like to think so. I am just happy that she was there.

My Story is very funny…..It is a sneak peak at the craziness my wedding will be! So my cousin got married at the Oyster Point a few years ago. We are a big Irish family and he was marrying a woman who comes from a big Irish family. So the cocktail hour starts drinks are flowing and everyone is having a good time. We move on to the reception where the party continues. It was after dinner everyone is on the dance floor having a good time when the fire alarm goes off. Well we think its a joke so we just continue dancing, the band keeps playing until the manager comes in and say there is a fire we need to leave the building. Everyone grabs a road drink and walks to the parking lot. As the fire trucks and police are coming I see my dad walking to his car and open the trunk. Just then I hear him say “Sullivan family over here”. I look and see my dad walking towards the river with a cooler full of alcohol. Needless to say my cousin and his wife who were very upset about what was going on followed and the party continued. There ended up being no fire and about a half hour later we were allowed back in to continue the celebration. To this day we still say how funny it was that my dad just happen to have a cooler full of booze in his car. So if there is a fire at my wedding make sure you find my dad……He will probably be pulling a cooler out of someones car 🙂

Well, from the second I got engaged I knew I wanted to have an outdoor ceremony. When we found our venue, Studio 450, we desperately wanted to have our ceremony on the rooftop of the 14 story building right sack in the middle of the New York skyline. Of course, the one thing I prayed and prayed for was to have no rain on our wedding day. Well, I woke up that morning to pouring rain, however by mid morning the rain had subsided and the sun began to shine. We were able to take our amazing pictures and have our special moment before the ceremony in central park. So with rain out of the way it looked as though we were going to get our outdoor ceremony on the rooftop of Studio 450 afterall. After pictures we headed to the venue and anxiously awaited for the ceremony to start. As guests were coming in I could hear more and more poeple talking about the wind. As I looked outside I could see that it was “breezy” but it didnt seem to be an issue. Before I knew it was show time. Just as we were about to walk down the aisle my wedding planner advise all of the bridesmaids (wearing short dresses), “maybe you should hold down your dresses girls”. It was at that moment I looked at all of my guests who were freezing and could hardly open their eyes due to the wind. Within 30 minutes of arriving at the venue the wind picked up to about 40mph. Needless to say my hair and my veil were blowing all around and almost flew right off my head taking me with it! Luckily, we planned on a 5-10 minute ceremony, too bad our guests could hardly hear our vows with the wind blowing the PA system in and out. We made it through the ceremony laughing and crying the entire time. Nex thing we knew we were married and could not wait to get back inside to warm up! All and all the wind kept me from balling my eyes out and it made for a memorable wedding for my guests as well as a day for NY. It ended up being the windiest day in NY history!!!!

I went to a wedding where two older folk were getting married for the second time. Most of the guest were in their upper 50’s. Music was playing but no one was on the dance floor. Maybe it was too early in the evening. Who knows… One tall gentleman, probably 6′ 4″, got on the dance floor and was doing some slow “old school” moves. He was soon joined by “the drunk” of the wedding, a woman in her 50’s with a cocktail in her hand. Cocktails aren’t unusual at weddings, but at this wedding they were only serving beer and wine. She brought a flask with her. The two guest “kind of ” started dancing with each other, but really they were doing their own thing. All of a sudden the woman does some sort of ballet/karate kick spin over the tall man’s head while he is slightly bending down. She nicks the top of his head, and in the process knocks half of his toupée of his head. He is unaware that it is crooked and continues to dance. She is unaware of basically everything happening at the wedding. The guest are howling with laughter, the band continues to play until they finish the song. When the song ends the man realizes his head piece is askew and disappears to fix it. The drunk lady stumbled off somewhere and never returned to the dance floor. I think the guess are still laughing 15 years later.
